Torat JLIC
Rabbi Dr. Alex Ozar serves as co-director of JLIC and campus rabbi at the Slifka Center for Jewish life at Yale, where he also earned his doctorate in philosophy and religious studies. He learned for two years in Kerem B-Yavneh and earned a BA, MA, and semikha from Yeshiva University. He has published in a variety of scholarly journals, is currently putting out a Jewish-philosophy podcast called Iyyun, and continues to seek new ways to cultivate and develop the project of Jewish thought. He believes strongly in the power of instrumental funk music to redeem the world. He lives in New Haven with his wife and JLIC co-director Lauren and their three children.
Rabbi Cantor was born and raised in Richmond and graduated from the Yeshiva of Virginia. He studied Torah at Yeshivat Har Etzion in Israel, received a BA in philosophy from Virginia Commonwealth University, and semicha from Rav Chaim Ozer Chait. He previously taught gemara at the Yeshiva of Virginia and most recently served as the Director of the Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (JLIC) at Johns Hopkins University. He is currently the director of the Richmond Jewish Learning Experience in Richmond, Virginia.
